“Sahaara, the premiere bollywood fusion dance team at san josé state university, was founded in 2014 and aims to take the drama and glamor from Bollywood films and turn them into explosive on-stage productions. Complete with costumes, props, and unique choreography, these performances integrate the flavor from the east and the modernism from the west to create something that entertains all audiences. we dance to encourage the spread of this colorful culture throughout campus and hope to spark a connection with all who participate. follow us on facebook & instagram for updates!”

as the founder and creative director of this team, i not only wanted to utilize this avenue in exploring dance, but i aimed to invent a unique identity that could carry on for generations.

the logo

being the university’s first organization of its kind, it was important to create a brand that really embodied our student members. in hindi, “sahaara” means “support”. the top “crown” hails from a lotus, with which we chose to represent ourselves because a flower is made up of many petals that give it its beauty. the striking “S” was created in order to resonate as the main letter that united both the organization and the university.

the gradient color scheme was chosen to include yellow, one of sjsu’s primary colors, alongside a mix of red/orange hues to give it that pop of excitement and include our own flare.

apparel

• team gear was created for a total of over 100+ dancers since the organizations’ inception. these were to be worn while traveling and attending dance competitions nationally.

• inventory includes dri-fit short/long sleeves and a windbreaker jacket. the designs were monochrome interpretations of the original gradient logo.
